Islay House is a great place to stay on Islay. It just reopened under new management so the bar and restaurant weren't open yet during our stay, but there's a restaurant and bar just down the road so it wasn't an issue at all.
Difficult to work out what was going on here but we learned from Google. The hotel is in the process of changing hands so seemed oddly empty and understaffed; two people for what is an extensive and (has been) luxurious property. We appeared to be the only guests in the entire place though another couple did show up for breakfast. Having said all that, the service was excellent, the room exquisite, the breakfast delightful, and the views to-die-for. Our hosts were charming and attentive. Surreal it may have been, in some particulars, but I wouldn't have missed it for the world. When the renovations have been done we won't be able to afford to stay in it!!
I’d booked Islay House for my visit to Islay; and I was initially sceptical about it since it’s recently changed hands. To my surprise, I was in for an absolute delight. The location could not have been better - easily accessible by public transportation, close to the port and all the other places of interests on the Isle. Ali and Rohit from the team were the epitome of true hospitality; since the hotel is currently operating as a bed and breakfast, they left no stone unturned to ensure I had a comfortable stay, and the rooms were well-appointed too! I’m definitely staying here on my next visit to Islay.
